Olio Development

These are the 22 thumbnails in my first rough work with  my olio cover, i largely struggled with a direct answer to my own saying "He who Smells best smell of nothing" and went with many more conceptual ideas about communicating something that smells of nothing.

I was advised to go forward and make larger thumbnails for five of my ideas, though i dropped one of the ideas due to lack of visual interest it had.

One of my thumbnails that i had developed greatly was one I found encompassed my practice better than my other thumbnails and my development of this idea was largely to experiment with the overall pink tone dominating the image that other tones can come in and give it more depth and guide the eye more, without there being too many and confusing the eye. 

I had chosen to go forward with a magenta and Cyan colour scheme with the bottom right image for my submission

My next rough came about through tutorials and the idea of consumerism and the idea of having more makes a person become less original.

This kind of narritive largely draws from a photographic perspective and a behind the image narrative, however i feel that much of the image looses it's impact with the horizontal format, and it does not properly communicate my intention of creating a sense of picture overwhelming of the figure.

Top left picture is an antithesis of the prior thumbnail and uses the preconception of retail work, particularly large supermarket work to give a sense of nothingness, enforced conformity and thus blending into the scenery.

Cover 

This is my first rough for the cover, It started off with the central object being the 12th card in the tarots major arcana the hanged man.
I associated the hanged man with the idea of proverbs as it is a card representative of self introspection, sacrifice and ultimately change.
We often see proverbs as vague, however being told them brings time to be introspective of ones own actions.

This first draft was a bit too painterly and did not give much lease for the graphical elements that needed to be within the image.

With this more graphical revision i chose to focus on the idea of tarot cards, and used Wheel of fortune and it's representation of the flux of human life and the world, a card implying a completion of a journey, to symbolize the end of the course.

This is the final rough of the cover I will be submitting.
